It’s that time of the year when Spring is new, and so is the discussion of new life. The Philadelphia Phillies have had much going on in the past few weeks with Gender Reveals.
It all started last Saturday with Bryson Stott during the Phillies game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, who revealed the gender of his friend Ryan Stevens’ new baby that is on the way. Pink isn’t usually part of the Phillies’ color scheme; however, Stott came to the plate wearing a pink armband to notify his friend of the baby girl they will be expecting in the coming months.
Many were thrilled to learn this fact after it happened on the field.
A few days later, Trea Turner and Bryce Harper followed that up with a gender reveal of their own. Harper is expecting his fourth baby this year and has asked his teammate Turner to do him one special favor.
Harper is always wearing something fun on the field to get everyone excited, whether it be his headband, cleats, or bats. He tries to get the fans involved in his antics and what he’s trying to pull off on the field.
This past Monday was no different for the Phillies’ first baseman. He had two different bats delivered to the stadium to play with this weekend, one pink and one blue. Harper had requested that Turner give him the bat of the color of what his fourth child would be.
It has been stated that Harper had wanted to share his gender reveal with the entire team during a meeting earlier that week.
Turner knew before everyone else did at the game and before the contest between the two teams had started because a text message had revealed it to him.
Turner made it a point to mess with Harper before he went up to bat during the game. Harper took a few swings with the pink one, and he seemed okay with it, but before he went to the plate, Turner handed him the blue bat, and he was immediately excited because that means he is having a boy.
So far this season, the theme has been babies being born. In a matter of weeks, the Phillies have already had two gender reveals. It’s been exciting for everyone and has gotten many to tune in to watch the Phillies games when they do get to play.
This fun approach to events has been an excellent way for the Phillies to connect with the fans, not just in the stands but also in the dugout.
There may be more before the end of the season!
