We are less than a day away from the 2025 NFL Draft and New Jersey natives have a lot to look forward to with both the New York Giants and New York Jets looking to take someone high profile home with both teams having top ten picks (the Giants owning the 3rd overall pick and the Jets owning the 7th overall pick). The possibility of players landing in East Rutherford are endless but here are three players that both teams could select and an overview of some team needs.
Giants with 3rd overall pick
Travis Hunter- Colorado (CB/WR)-
Hunter is a generational talent that seems to be able to slip to this pick mostly due to positional need from the Titans and Browns owning the 1st and 2nd pick respectively. As a defensive back and a wide receiver he was phenomenal for the University of Colorado, winning the Heisman Trophy awarded to the best college football player. He had 1,258 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns. Not to mention he was a lockdown corner snagging 4 interceptions and 36 tackles to his name. So no doubt he is fantastic but the key for an NFL team to unlock his potential is to keep him playing both positions like in college. Is this sustainable? Definitely, it’s possible with a receiver like Malik Nabers and cornerback like Deonte Banks, Hunter wouldn’t have to carry an insane workload straight off the bat. This pick would possibly propel the Giants into playoff contention and would give Giants fans another superstar at MetLife stadium.
Abdul Carter- Penn State (Edge/OLB)
Carter is a monster at age with imposing will on tackles and this past year switched to outside linebacker along with playing edge. He has a sneaky familiarity to Penn state Alumni and NFL superstar, Micah Parsons with both having explosive moves off the line and able to play on multiple spots on and off the line. Carter made waves while in the NCAA National Championship playoffs making it all the way to facing Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl. Carter had a whopping 12 sacks this year in 15 games and 68 total tackles with two forced fumbles. Some may say this line is already solid with Kayvon Thibodeaux and Brian Burns, but this selection would only bolster and improve game wrecking ability in an NFC East whose quarterbacks are seeping with talent like Jayden Daniels and Super Bowl Champion Jalen Hurts.
Armand Membou- Missouri (OT)
Now hear me out, you might have thought Shedeur Sanders or another edge rusher here, but I truly believe Membou could be an important piece of this Giants offense as a whole. You see teams draft a quarterback who aren’t ready to protect that quarterback and we never get to see that guy reach his full potential. Membou was a monster at Missouri not allowing a sack in 2024. He is a bit undersized but the Giants can move him around to either guard as they still do have Andrew Thomas. He has unbelievable poise and calmness to his game and he will be able to protect whatever quarterback the Giants decide to put out there come September.
New York Jets with 7th overall pick:
Tyler Warren- Penn State (TE)
This is the nice flashy pick that people want for the Jets. Will it be the smartest? Maybe. But I can tell you now that Warren is the best at his position and one of the most talented players in the draft. Another Penn State alum, Warren was used as a Swiss Army knife playing tight end, running back, full back and blocking. He’s got all the intangibles to make him a monster in this league. He had 1,233 yards and eight touchdowns. He also had 218 yards rushing with four touchdowns and not to mention he averaged 8.4 yards a carry! That’s insanity to put it into simpler terms. He could really bolster this Jets offense with new and help new quarterback Justin Fields. The only downside could be the severe positional need anywhere else but Warren could make all those questions stop if he proves to be an elite player.
Will Campbell- LSU (OT)
LSU’s finest finds himself here as I do think Armand Membou is a good selection here as well. I think that Campbell will be sitting here and will slot right into the slot for this Jets O-Line. I think this pick will be the right way the Jets tried to handle the Tyron Smith situation where they can slot him in and out of the line especially with having Olu Fashanu already there they can move Campbell wherever they see him fit either at tackle or guard. Campbell is the other premier tackle from this draft with his arm length being a big question that could move him up or down in this draft the Jets could take advance and use his elite athleticism and size to protect their new investment in Fields.
Ashton Jeanty- Boise State (RB)
Imagine a world where defensive lineman and linebackers had to face a two headed monster in Ashton Jeanty and Breece Hall. In fact it would be a three headed monster with Fields’ rushing ability. As crazy as this may seem, if Jeanty falls on the Jets lap, it wouldn’t be crazy for them to consider it. Aaron Glenn, new Jets head coach was in Detroit for the running back combo in Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. Adding Jeanty would open up a whole new playbook for the Jets to utilize and get guys like Garret Wilson the ball a little bit more while defenses are stressing out about the run game. I don’t think I need to tell you Jeanty’s stellar and Heisman season but I will because it’s phenomenal, he had 2,601 rushing yards, 29 touchdowns and 7.0 yards per carry. The only player who has had more rushing yards in a single college football season is Barry Sanders in 1988 with 2,628. That right there should tell you why the Jets should take this generational running back talent we haven’t seen in a long, long time.
