Timo Meier, a professional ice hockey player for the New Jersey Devils, has been a menace out on the ice recently. At only 28 years old, the Swiss athlete is currently performing better than many veterans in the NHL. Meier plays for the Devils under an eight-year contract worth $70.4 million signed in June of 2023. Meier is a force to be reckoned with, and his performance has and will likely continue to improve.
At the team’s matchup against the Edmonton Oilers on March 13th, Meier recorded his 25th assist of the regular season. Not long after, on March 17th, against the Columbus Blue Jackets Meier earned his 20th goal of the regular season.
Statistically, this season, Meier currently stands with 22 goals and 25 assists, accumulating a total of 47 points. With still more season to go, Meier trails just 5 points below his total for the 23-24 season. Across Meier’s time with the Devils, he has earned 113 regular-season points. He currently holds career statistics of 213 goals and 216 assists in 612 games played.
Meier has been a key player in the team’s push for the playoffs. After losing Jack Hughes, Dougie Hamilton, and Jonas Siegenthaler to injuries, the team needed to find a way to pick up the slack, and Meier did just that. In yesterday’s game against the Vancouver Canucks, Meier accounted for two of the three goals scored, once in the 2nd and once in the 3rd period, ultimately leading the team into the OT. Across the last six games, Meier has earned five points and has been leading the team offensively.
In an interview done by NHL.com after last night’s game, Meier stated that consistency is the key to success. While debriefing about tonight’s game, he explained how if they’re only consistent for 59 minutes and 30 seconds rather than a full 60 minutes, they would need to pay the price.
After losing to the Canucks in the shootout last night, they did. With now a three-game losing streak, fans are losing confidence in the team. Can Timo carry the team to a playoff run, or will they fall short? The Devils face the Chicago Blackhawks tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. at the United Center. Tune in to see Meier’s performance against the Blackhawks.
