Tropical Storm Debby Cancels Flights at Newark Airport

As Tropical Storm Debby travels along the east coast, several flights have been either delayed or canceled at the Newark Airport.

New Jersey will face a week of storms as Tropical Storm Debby, formerly classified as a hurricane, moves northward from Florida. Areas in North Jersey will see thunderstorms and heavy winds, with potential for flooding, according to the National Weather Service.

With weather conditions worsening in the area, the Newark Airport has officially canceled 113 flights and delayed 266 flights, according to flightaware.com. The canceled flights are scattered across many different airlines, including United, Republic, Spirit, JetBlue, GoJet and American. United has canceled 36 flights as of now.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that the Newark Airport called in a ground delay on Monday. Flights leaving Newark were delayed by 43 minutes due to high “airport volume.”

The Newark Airport advises anyone with an upcoming trip to confirm with their specific airlines for further information regarding the status of their flights.
