With the summer well underway, water related accidents have become more frequent. But, this summer has been unlike any other. In the U.S., 23 people died due to dangerous water and surf conditions.
These deaths occurred when swimmers or surfers got caught in rip currents, which can quickly drag someone underwater if they don’t know how to escape. While no one has died in New Jersey, nine people were rescued from a rip current at a South Jersey beach last month. Some of them didn’t know how to escape, and others got caught while trying to help.
