A Conrail Santa Train struck a minivan at a crossing in South Plainfield. The driver was uninjured, but the vehicle was badly damaged. Police say the overhead caution lights were working at the time, but there was no gate to prevent the car from driving on the track.

An East Orange man was arrested for attempting to stab a school crossing guard with a pen in Bloomfield. It happened at the intersection of Glenwood Avenue and Llewellyn Avenue. 32-year-old Demetrius Childs faces multiple charges, including resisting arrest.

Clinton Township’s fire chief Jeff Hedden and patrol officer Michael Malanga were honored at a recent council meeting for their outstanding service. The two helped rescue a resident from a burning home earlier this year.

Several local officials were on hand to celebrate the grand opening of South Jersey Cookie Cakes in Westville. The event was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The new business is located on Broadway.
