The state Department of Environmental Protection says Beachwood Beach West in Ocean County will be off limits to swimming for the remainder of the summer. The decision was made after high levels of bacteria were found in the water.

A man has been indicted by a federal grand jury after kidnapping a 14-year-old girl. Last summer, 22-year-old Sergio Gomez took the girl from New Jersey to Georgia to sexually assault her. He faces several charges.

Former Rutgers University president Richard L. McCormick will be taking on a new role. Starting August 1st, the 76-year-old will serve as the interim president of Stony Brook University. He’ll hold the position through June of 2025.

The City of Margate recently honored Officer Jim Costa and Communications Officer Kelly Ferrier for their heroics last month. The two helped save the life of a 3-year-old, who was unresponsive after falling into a pool.
