Three families were displaced after a house fire in Sicklerville. The fire broke out on the second floor of a townhome on Magnolia Court. There were no injuries reported, and Red Cross is assisting the displaced families.

Two middle school students were injured, after getting hit by a car on Prospect Street in Maplewood. The driver was summonsed for careless driving and failure to yield. Parents are now calling for improved safety measures on that road.

Brigadier General Cindy *Saladin-Muhammad was recently honored at a town council meeting. The Scotch Plains resident became the first Muslim and the fifth African-American woman to reach the rank of general in the United States.

Princeton professor John Hopfield just won a Nobel Peace Prize for his work in artificial intelligence. The 91-year-old created an associative memory that can store and reconstruct images and other types of patterns in data.
