A train operator was killed and 23 passengers were injured, after a New Jersey Transit train struck a tree that was lying on the track. It happened in Mansfield Township. Service had to be suspended between Trenton and Florence.

A 65-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed while crossing the street in Old Bridge. It happened on Englishtown Road, near the Old Bridge Diner Family Restaurant. The victim died from his injuries at the scene.

A nurses union has voted in favor of a new work contract, that assigns fewer patients to nurses at University Hospital in Newark. The contract also enforces a staffing committee, to monitor the hospital’s compliance with the new guidelines.

New Jersey City University just created a program with Mercer County Community College, to simplify the transfer process between the schools. This comes as a result of the university seeing a decline in student enrollment.
